Hampshire's Historic Village

Segensworth

Commercial and business park area north of the village with office and industrial space, close to the M27 junction.

Segensworth lies to the north of Titchfield village, straddling the boundary between the historic parish and the modern Fareham borough. It is primarily known as a business and employment area rather than a residential one. Segensworth Business Centre and the surrounding industrial and office parks along Segensworth Road provide workspace for a range of companies, from small local businesses to regional offices. The area developed commercially from the 1970s onwards, taking advantage of the proximity to the M27 motorway (junction 9) and the A27. For Titchfield residents, Segensworth is the nearest concentration of employment outside Fareham town centre. The area also includes some residential development, particularly along the roads connecting the business parks to the village and to Park Gate. Segensworth East and Segensworth West are the two main business park areas, separated by the main road. The character is functional and commercial, with little of the historic interest found in the village itself. However, Segensworth serves an important economic role for the wider area. The original manor of Segensworth has a long history recorded in the Victoria County History, predating the business parks by many centuries. The name derives from a Saxon personal name, and the manor was held by various families through the medieval period. Today, little of that earlier settlement is visible beneath the modern development, but the name survives on the business parks and on Segensworth Road, which connects the area to the village.
