Hampshire's Historic Village

West Hill

Residential area west of the village centre with a mix of period and mid-century housing on rising ground, within walking distance of The Square.

West Hill is the area to the west and north-west of the village centre, rising gently from The Square along the road towards Fareham. The housing here is a mix of older properties near the village core and mid-twentieth-century development further out. Some of the houses along the upper part of West Street and the streets leading off it date from the Victorian and Edwardian periods, while others were built in the 1950s and 1960s as the village expanded. The area includes parts of Cartwright Drive and the streets around it, which form a distinct residential enclave of post-war housing. West Hill provides a transition between the historic village and the more suburban development that links Titchfield to the wider Fareham borough. The area is within easy walking distance of the village centre and its shops, and residents benefit from the village community while living in more modern housing. There is no significant commercial activity on West Hill itself; it is purely residential. The road towards Fareham carries some traffic, but the streets off it are quiet cul-de-sacs and crescents typical of their era. Green spaces and mature gardens give the area a settled, leafy character. Primary school children from the area attend Titchfield Primary School, which is within walking distance. The higher ground provides some views over the village and towards the Meon valley, though these are limited by the surrounding tree cover and built development.
