The Great Barn
Heritage, Titchfield
The Great Barn is a medieval tithe barn near Bridge Street, dating from the fifteenth century. The timber-framed building was originally used to store agricultural tithes and is one of the finest surviving examples of its type in Hampshire. The barn has been restored and is now used as a performance venue by the Titchfield Festival Theatre, hosting plays, concerts, and other cultural events. The interior, with its exposed timber frame and high roof, provides an atmospheric setting for live performance. The barn is a Grade II listed building and a distinctive feature of the village. Performances are staged regularly throughout the year, and the venue draws audiences from across the Fareham borough and beyond. The conversion from agricultural building to theatre has given the barn a sustainable future while preserving its historic character.
