Walking Routes from Titchfield
Paths, trails, and countryside walks
Titchfield is exceptionally well placed for walking. The village is surrounded by a network of footpaths, bridleways, and lanes that provide access to the River Meon, the coast, the nature reserve, and the Hampshire countryside.
The most popular walk from the village follows the canal path north from Bridge Street to Titchfield Abbey and beyond, following the straight course of the seventeenth-century canal alongside the River Meon. This is a flat, easy walk that takes in the abbey ruins and the water meadows, and it can be extended further north along the river towards Wickham.
Heading south from the village, Posbrook Lane leads to Titchfield Haven and Meon Shore. The walk from The Square to the coast takes approximately forty-five minutes at a steady pace and passes through farmland and along the edges of the nature reserve. The views across the Solent from Meon Shore are rewarding, and the walk can be extended east along the coast to Hill Head or west towards the Hamble estuary.
The Solent Way long-distance path passes through the Titchfield Haven area, providing a waymarked route along the coast. Walkers can join the Solent Way from the village and follow it in either direction.
Shorter walks around the village include circuits through the fields towards Catisfield, walks along the lanes to Segensworth and back, and loops through the Titchfield Common area using public footpaths. The relatively flat terrain makes most of the walks accessible to people of varying fitness levels.
The paths are generally well maintained, though they can be muddy in winter, particularly along the river corridor and through the water meadows. Waterproof footwear is advisable from October to March. The parish council and local walking groups maintain an interest in the condition of the paths and report issues to Hampshire County Council, which is responsible for public rights of way.
