Bridge Street

Street guide, Titchfield

Bridge Street connects the village centre to the area north of the River Meon, running from the High Street towards Titchfield Abbey. The street crosses the old course of the river and the canal, and the bridge itself is the point where the village meets the water meadows and the abbey grounds. Properties along Bridge Street include a handful of older cottages and houses, some with views over the river and the flat ground that extends towards the abbey. The Great Barn stands close to Bridge Street and is visible from the road. The street carries local traffic heading north towards the A27 and the Fareham suburbs, but it is not heavily used. For walkers, Bridge Street is the starting point for the path along the canal and the route to the abbey ruins. The combination of water, historic buildings, and the proximity of the abbey makes Bridge Street one of the most attractive approaches in the village.
