The Square
Street guide, Titchfield
The Square is the focal point of Titchfield village, a small open space at the junction of South Street, High Street, West Street, and Coach Hill. It is not a grand civic square in the urban sense, but rather a widening of the road where the main routes through the village converge. The Bugle pub occupies a prominent position on The Square and has served as the village's social anchor for generations. A few other businesses front onto the space, and there are period buildings on all sides that give The Square a cohesive historic character. The war memorial stands here, and the space is used for village events including the Christmas lights switch-on. The Square functions as the village's living room, the place where people meet, pass through, and stop to talk. It is the natural starting point for any exploration of Titchfield.
