Mill Lane

Street guide, Titchfield

Mill Lane branches off near Bridge Street and follows the course of the old mill stream on the western side of the River Meon. The name reflects the milling activity that took place along the river for centuries. The lane is narrow and semi-rural in character, with hedgerows and trees lining parts of the route. There are a few residential properties along Mill Lane, set in larger plots than the more tightly built village centre. The lane provides access to footpaths along the river and through the water meadows, making it a popular starting point for walks. The mill buildings that gave the lane its name have largely disappeared or been converted, but the watercourse remains and the flat, wet ground on either side is characteristic of the Meon valley landscape. Mill Lane is quiet and lightly trafficked, used mainly by residents and walkers.
