Coach Hill
Street guide, Titchfield
Coach Hill rises steeply east from The Square towards the A27 Southampton Hill. It is the main route out of the village to the east and provides the connection to Fareham and the wider road network. The name records its historic use as part of the coaching route between Southampton and the coastal towns. The lower part of Coach Hill, near The Square, has attractive period properties that form part of the conservation area. Higher up, the housing is more modern. The gradient is notable and gives views back over the village rooftops as you climb. The junction with the A27 at the top can be busy, particularly during rush hours, but the hill itself carries only local traffic. Coach Hill gives the eastern approach to the village a distinctive character, the steep descent into the centre providing a sense of arrival that the flatter approaches lack.
