Southampton Hill
Street guide, Titchfield
Southampton Hill is the section of the A27 that runs past the top of Coach Hill, carrying traffic between Fareham and the western parts of the borough. It is a busy road, particularly during peak hours, and serves as the main through-route in the area. The road is named for its direction of travel towards Southampton, though the city is some distance further west. There is residential development along parts of Southampton Hill, with houses set back from the road behind front gardens and hedges. The traffic noise and speed of the road give it a very different character from the quiet village streets below. For Titchfield residents, Southampton Hill is the road they join when leaving the village by car, and the traffic conditions at the Coach Hill junction are a regular topic of local discussion. The Titchfield Lane junction and the Segensworth Road junction are both on this stretch.
